The best thing on earth is to buy something he has wanted for a past Christmas, birthday, or other occasion. That makes for a spot-on winner. If all else fails, simply ask for a few ideas. If he comes up with nothing, then buy something for the both of you, that YOU want.

In my experience, the best gifts I've received from my wife and before that girlfriends on Valentines Day didn't cost them anything. It's a holiday for women and he should get you something. His reward for that gift is up to you, but be sure to make it memorable. I'm sure you can think of something.

The best gifts are gifts that you put thought into. My boyfriend and I met in Chicago. 1 year I bought him an etched paper weight for his office with the skyline of chicago. Where did you meet , or where is something that you enjoyed doing something together?

Try some of those 'activity days'. You can get some cheaper ones in Tesco's now. I bought my hubbie a flying lesson for his B'day and he absolutely loved it. Made him feel all manly!
