There are 1,024,000 kilobits in a megabit.

The rule of thumb is
8 - bits = 1 byte
1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte
1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte

When you say 128 kbps, you are saying that in one second, 131,072 bytes of data are transferring across the network at any given time. Not very much when you consider the speed of high speed cables.

kbps is kiloBYTES per second, not bits.
1024 kilobits is one megbit but usually there are 8 bits in a byte (some used to have 7) so 8 kilobits is one kilobyte. one megabit per second is 128 kilobytes per second.

1,000kilo = 1mega, 1000mega = 1gig, 1,000gig = 1 tarobyte
