What percentage of 1st time mom's go past their due date?

Question

My due date is tomorrow & it's my first. I know a lot of women having their first child goes past thier due date. But I have a friend who was due Feb. 4 with her first and had it on Feb. 1st. So since most first timers go over does that mean she was further along... and what is the percentage of first timers that go over their due date... thanks for the answers

A lot of first timers do go over their due date. On second and subsequent pregnancies, your body is prepared and has done it before, so often they progress faster and have the child earlier. But anyone can go overdue and many have their babies early too. It depends on your body, your baby, and the prediction of the doctor. Your friend had her baby early because her baby was ready to come out. Your baby will come when he/she is ready.

stop putting emphasis on the due date. it's an ESTIMATED DUE DATE- i dont know why OB's dont give you a 4 week birth "month" period- and make that your due date..... there are so many things that go into due dates- most women actually go into labor with their first child at 40 weeks and 6 days.. a due date is just an approximate date of when you should be planning on going into labor- just because you go past your 'due date' doesn't mean that your due date was wrong and you arent as far along etc etc...

? I was 2-3 weeks past due with all 3 of my children. But I have 3 sisters and all their kids were born on time. I was the only on that had issues while pregnant.

my sisters due date was feb. 19 and she had a premmie. my due date is feb. 24 but im pretty sure he will come earlier just by the way i have been feeling lately my doctors are saying the same thing. my friend had her baby right on her due date. but i guess the baby will come when he/she is ready

i dont think they you can really put a percentage onto how many mothers are late....if your friend had her baby a few days early...its because when you first go the the doctors - its only a rough idea from your dates & size of the baby etc., ..so nothing can really be 'dead on' exact i think.

if you do go over...do not worry at all - you are monitored constantly and its perfectly normal to be a bit early...or a bit late - baby will soon let you know when its coming!! - good luck honey - you will be fine!

I didn't find the exact stats, but here is some insight:

"A more recent study (Mittendorf, 1990) indicates that term for uncomplicated pregnancies in first-time, Caucasian mothers, averages 274 days from ovulation. It averages 269 days for mothers who’ve given birth before. The abstract says non-Caucasian pregnancies are shorter than Caucasian, but doesn’t give statistics."

My first I actually had on my due date but she broke my water and I went into labor. Everyone is different so it really all depends on your body. Congrat's on baby and hang in there.

with my 1st baby i went past my due date and they induced me 5 days after it b/c the baby was so big. hopefully my second will not be as stubborn and come out on time. good luck

every birth is different so its hard to say.i was on due date with my first,1 day over with my second and ten days over with my third.just take it easy while you can you will need all your energy to care for your little one.soon the fun begins.i am jelous of you,a new baby to love!!
