How much gel should I buy to make approx. 50 average sized candles?

I have never made gel candles before but want to buy enough to make at least 50 medium sized gel candles. I noticed it is sold by the pound. Anyone with experience? What other materials will I need besides the obvious (zinc wicks, glass containers)?

What do you consider medium sized? If the candle cup hold about 1/2 cup volume then multiply that by 50 to get your amount, etc...
