Hi i wanna send my friend in america a txt her mobile is set for San Jose. Is there anything i need to add to her number b4 txting it. I know when u phone there are dial codes so wondered if this is the same for txt messages.

here is a cool, no cost solution for you and for the person you are sending text msgs too.
Signup for a free service called Peekamo (www.peekamo.com), you can then use your pc to txt message the person in the US FOR FREE (free for YOU to send and free for THEM to receive).
Get your friend to register at Peekamo.com and tell that person to give you their Peekamo ID. Once you have that ID, you can go the site yourself and from the home page, you can send a peekamo (txt message) to that person for nothing! Free for them and free for you.
Don't worry, there is no spam.

That's probably really expensive.
I would find out what phone company she uses, go to their website, and see if there's a page to send texts to phones on that network. Some of the companies have them.
