Thats what i always thought it was too because thet say that it is from a an unknown virus that they make you think she got from her her earlier sex and drug use

Many people assume it was AIDS but it is never told. In present-day, Forrest reveals that he is waiting at the bus stop because he received a letter from Jenny who, having seen him run on television, asks him to visit her. Once he is reunited with Jenny, she introduces him to his son, also named Forrest. Jenny tells Forrest she is suffering from a virus (possibly HIV/AIDS, though this is never definitively stated).

They don't really say what it is, because at the time the movie was taking place, AIDs was still unknown to us, they just called it an unidentified virus.
All of the symptoms she had were indicative of AIDs though.

It was never definitely stated what her disease was, but the implication was that she died from AIDS. She tells Forrest "I have this virus, and they don't seem to know where it came from." Add into that her drug use and promiscuous life-style, and AIDS is the obvious assumption.

I always assumed it was AIDS because it was the early 80's (I guess) when she died, and she said she had a virus that the docotors didn't really know what it was, also it was clear she was a drug user. I think that's the conclusion we're supposed to come to.

I always thought it was AIDS. I remember that part was set in the 80s, and she said that she had a disease and the doctor's didn't know what it was.

I don't think it ever really says but the way everything in the movie somehow relates to cultural events, my guess is aids.

based on her lifestyle i would say aids. she did drugs and slept around during the time that movie was set in there was alot said about aids

I always assumed it was AIDS, due to the time period of their last meeting & her lifestyle choices.
They never addressed THAT or if Forrest Jr. was HIV Positive or not.
