I hear people say that Nancy Pelosi should 'walk' instead of fly to her destinations. Why don't some americans want to protect our elected officials in line to the presidency? Why do they wish to put her, and thus America, in danger? Why do they thumb their noses at the whitehouse for protecting the office of the presidency? Are they terrorist sympathizers?

he could get home non stop with his plane. Nancy cannot. And she never asked for it. And I know darn well that if she were a woman or a republican this wouldn't even be an issue. It's kind of like white poeple denying racism, and black people acknowledgin it. of COURSE white people don' t notice it, it isn't directed at them! Until you have l;ived a day in someone's shoes, you cannot claim to know where they come from

In reality, there are very few people in this country that can be regarded as important. The Speaker of the House is a very important person regardless of the political party she/he belongs to. I have confidence that the law enforcement community of the federal government takes every precaution to insure the Speaker's safety and the safety of her family. We have not had a top official assassinated in this country since JFK, which is a credit to Secret Service and the law enforcement community. Countries that regularly have their leaders assassinated quickly fall into disrepair and chaos. Haiti is a prime example, where the life expectancy of the President is less than three years.

YES!!!

Lately I have been watching these "doomsday" movies - I don't know why. Fail Safe, Seven Days in May, etc.

Nancy Pelosi is next in line after Bush and Cheney for the presidency. (I wish it were not so. But that's irrelevant.) She needs to be kept in touch and found at all times. She might have to push the button if they can't!

At first glance, I don't see why she can't use the same plane Hastert did. She may live farther away, but the problem is that Hastert was such a do-nothing that no one remembers where he lives!!!

The White House says give her what she wants, so that kind of ends it. I DO think she should have been happy with what Hastert had. I do think people had a point - and even if they were stretching it, she should know not to fall into the trap. And it was very disappointing to hear her (I heard her interviewed) asking whether people were "denying" her a plane because she was the "first woman speaker." I know that NOT to be true, but a female co-worker could well tell me that women have a tougher time of it and I can't understand.

In the end, much ado about nothing, while the terrorists laugh.

I do appreciate the (intended) irony of the question! :)

PS This would be a good place for me to repeat my tirade - if there is any catastrophic attack, the President can be replaced (line of succession), the Senate can be replaced (by governors), but the 435 people in Congress could NOT. We'd need special elections, or else have a semi-dictator, or chaos. The Constitution should be changed to allow for the immediate replacement of congressmen temporarily until there can be special elections. If we're going to think about the unthinkable, let's plan for it.

PPS If it's the sergeant at arms, it does indeed throw a different light on it. But it will take another week for all the real facts to sift out, and by then no one will care.

PPPS As for discrimination, they say you can't judge a man until you've walked in his shoes.

That must be why my Dad was so judgemental - he was a champion bowler!

(Get it? You rent the shoes and . . . oh, never mind.)

Seriously, it is possible. It's also possible she's making an unfair accusation. Substitute the word "Catholic" for woman or black, and you'll see what I mean. Have a nice weekend.

I just think Pelosi is making too many demands, from her position in the House to what kind of plane she wants. It will not kill her to have to make a fuel stop. She does not have to disembark for that. No, people are just tired of the House and Congressional leaders taking the big ticket items. With everyone complaining about what Iraq has cost the American taxpayer, who wants to hear about her specifics about a plane. She deserves no more than the last Speaker had. She's done nothing to earn that perk. It has nothing to do with being a terrorist sympathizer. If she's so concerned about holding back money and troops because they control the 'purse'..then she doesn't need extravagance, either.

No, I'm concerned about the safety of all American Citizens, first and foremost. Maybe if these people were subjected to the same risks that American Citizens endure on a daily basis, they'd take enforcing our immigration laws and our other laws more seriously. The President is required to be protected, as is the Vice President, and they are not to be in the same place at the same time as a safety measure. But we certainly don't need to provide protection to all our elected officials at taxpayers' expense, especially when they failed to protect us from the terrorists on 9/11/01.

"Why do they wish to put her, and thus America, in danger?"

Suddenly Nancy Pelosi represents America, when did this happen? Nancy Pelosi's life or death has exactly zero bearing on the safety of this nation.

ok...maybe she shouldnt walk, but she shouldnt be allowed a huge jet at taxpayers expense...the only one that should get that is the president...she should stick with the one the gov't had for the speaker before her...which will do just fine to get her home, in one non stop flight of about 4-5 hours..just the same as the one she wants...only she wont be able to sell tickets on her flight to campaign contributors on the smaller jet....

I'll skip the ink and go to what's recognizeable as a question.

No.

Any life threatening situation is probably going to come from those around or behind the President if Mr. Kennedy is any indication.

They say flying is safer than driving, but I would guess that walking is safer than both. So if you are concerned about her safety then walking would be her best bet.

No one is complaining about her flying just her flying at an more than expensive rate.

Don't try to confuse them with logic. They just hate Pelosi. Good, that way I know she is doing something right.
