2006 LSU Tigers
my evidence LSU won the mock ESPN and fox sports college football playoffs, followed up by many announcers claiming them to be the most talented team in the SEC so . . .

Well number one has to be 2005 USC. Number two I have to go with 2002 Miami (FL). Number 3 1994 Penn State. If you are counting teams that were co-National Champions then, your 4 and 5 have to be 2003 USC, and 1997 Nebraska.

2005 USC was overrated. They nearly lost to Fresno st.
1. 1983 nebraska. Normally if a team losses i say that they werent that good. But this team would have been considered one of the top ten greatest if they dont lose that game. Everything that could go wrong goes wrong. Least intercepted qb in Ncaa history gets picked off. Heisman trophy winner shreds miami's #1 defense only to leave the game with a injury. several fumbles including one on the 1 yard line i think. miami's kicker hit a 50 + yard field goal when he had only hit like 2 all year.
2.3-way Tie (2004 Auburn, 1971 sooners, and 1994 penn state.)
2004 Auburn would have beaten USC. Oklahoma was completely overrated. They had several freshman DB's and Jason white who threw 8 int's in two national championship games i think. Auburns defense was one of the best and they had Cadillac williams and ronnie brown.
1971 oklahoma would have been national champions if it hadnt of been for one of the greatest teams in history the 71 cornhuskers in the game of the century. They set ncaa records in rushing and crushed pretty ever else.
1994 penn state. Ki-jana carter should have won the heisman and kerry collins was actually good back then. They didnt have a single close game.

1995 Notre Dame...when their only lose was to BC on a late field goal...They beat the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Florida State...and was the last time ND won their Bowl game... yes, it hurt...I'm a fan...
