Paul Van Dyk just topped out the list of worlds best 100 dj's in DJ Magazine for the 2nd year in a row. You are reffering to instrumental trance not vocal trance right?
Check Tiesto, Armin Van Burren, Orbital, Christopher Lawrence (selected as best American trance artist), Sasha, Digweed, Paul Oakenfold (does various styles), Future Sound of London, Massive Attack, The Orb and Moby has some songs that are considered trance check his remixes.

If you get any CD by Paul Van Dyk (German DJ), Sasha, or John Digweed. They are the best out there. Check out the Global Underground CD's, especially Sasha in San Francisco.
