I used to be a gymnast and swimmer many moons ago, we used to have to do stretching EVERY day. Once you start becoming supple you have to try and push that little further, but not to much. Always make sure your muscles are warmed up before you start this as you can really really hurt yourself.

maybe try some yoga classes as well, as there are a lot of moves there that will help you stretch and teach you how to stretch properly.

Yoga is a good idea! But i also want to learn how to do the splits. What me and my friend do is, sit on the floor somewhere where you have lots of room. Sit in front of each other with both ur legs spread apart. Have ur friend put her feet on the inside of ur knees, and she takes ur hands and basically pulls ur body toward her with her feet still on ur knees. But you have to tell her when to stop because its always a point where it starts hurting. You guys can take turns doing it! So you wont be able to do the splits right a way of corse, you just have to keep doing it and it might seem forever till you actually do the splits. It stretches out the muscles in you ur leg. Ive been doin it for a while and im so close to touching the ground while trying the splits. Or you could learn the painful way which is signing up for a cheerleaders team and have them POP your legs. Thats how my mom learned in high school and she said it hurt so bad and she was crying. So its ur choice.......good luck!

STRETCHES EVERYDAY!! The only way is to be dedicated. I danced with a school for 8 yrs & couldn't split, I never got any help because the teachers treated it as either u could split or you couldn't. Three years ago I changed schools and the gymnastic coach said she'd have me splitting and flipping in 3 months with the right training. I never thought it would happen but it did and now I can split really well.
Anytime you're stretching make sure you're thoroughly warmed up and never push yourself til it's really painful but a little bit of discomfort is ok.

you just need to practice practice practice. don't just do the split position you could get hurt if you go straight into it. touch your toes and make sure you don't bounce, just hold it there. then go into a straddle and hold it. then touch your toes on the floor. next sit in reach. then stretch out your back and your ready to go. try both legs. i can only do it with one leg so you might be using the wrong one. i usually stretch while watching TV. like you my joints don't naturally turn so it takes us a lot more practice. it took me a half a year stretching every day so you better be pretty determined if you really want to do this. good luck.

Get yourself a leg stretcher machine that martial artist use. They are cheap and even argos sells one for around £30 and a little each day will stretch those muscles in the tops of the leg to help you do those splits.

side split stretches:
1st stretch:take a thick book and put it down on the ground then put one of your feet on it and go down into the splits position as far as u can and hold it there for like 2 minutes and switch legs.then do it without the book.
2nd stretch:put one leg straight in front and the other leg fully bended and try to touch your foot that is straight and hold it for like 1 min then switch legs.
3rd stretch do the splits as far as u can down and hold it for 1 or 2 mins and switch legs.
4th stretch:if u can do the splits then hold your front foot for 30sec-1min then sit straight and bend your back and extend your arms backwards and do it with the other leg.
5th stretch: do lunges

middle splits:
stretch:do it as far down as u can and hold it there for 1 or 2min and rest for a few minutes and do it again.

and yoga would help

hold it longer than 10 seconds. and do it everday.

i asked my dance teacher how i could get my splits because i stretched almost everday and held it for only 30 seconds. and she told me to hold it for 3 minutes everday. and when your in the split position 3 whole minutes feels like FOREVER. but trust me it works!. do it while your watching TV, so your not concentrating on the time because it'll just [feel] like its going slower. and make sure your front knee is facing completely up, and your back knee is completely down on the floor, not turned sideways and your hips are squared.

--remember, EVERDAY, THREE minutes. :]

join gymnastics. Or strecth out first. In gymnastics there's this thing that's a lunge. It matters what leg you want to do the splits. If u want to do a right leg spilt, then do a right leg lunge. if u want to do a left leg split, do a legt aeg lunge. A lunge is like your legs are shaped like a square.

The best way to achevie spilts is by stretching.
Do needles (thats when you put both your hands on the floor and lift one leg in the air and try to get your crotch to touch the wall. Keep bottom leg straight.) lunges, and hold your spilts ford 30sec-1min watch tv in your spilts that what i do.
