It depends on what type of hearing loss they have. If it's the typical "old age" variety of hearing loss, loud is better, although slow wouldn't hurt.

If its a hearing loss like mine (too many loud concerts in the 70's), I've lost some of my ability to distinguish consonants. So if someone says "go get the phone" I hear "oh eh uh oh". For that type of hearing loss louder doesn't help, it needs to be slower and better enunciated. It always helps if your looking at the person to whom you're speaking.

I'm sorry to those of you who are annoyed at my constantly saying "what, what, what". Imagine how embarrassing it is to always, ALWAYS have to be saying that even when you aren't around to hear it. I've actually got tears in my eyes now thinking about how annoying I would be to you if we ever met.

Loud, slow, using sign language and write it down, thats if its important, otherwise just loud will do

holy crap there's this one manager here at work who is hard of hearing and when you start to talk to him he just breaks in and goes "WHAT?" really loud. It is SOOOOO annoying. And when he talks to you he shouts half the time.

A little louder usually helps. If not, they may need new hearing aid batteries.

One of my coworkers is hard of hearing and asks people to face him and speak slowly because he reads lips.

My wife is this way... no joke.. she has to wear a hearing aid because of it.. you can talk louder.. and slower.. they read lips mainly..

to him,i have to higher my voice up,boy do i get so annoyed!
