It usually begins around the 6th week of pregnancy, but I've heard of it happening sooner. It is also flu season, though, and there are tons of other cause for nausea.
While it goes away for many women after 12 weeks of pregnancy, some women are sick the whole pregnancy, and others have a condition called "hyperemesis gravidarum," which basicially means "puking your guts out due to pregnancy." If your friend can't keep anything down (especially liquids), she can go to the ER for IV fluids.

morning sickness can occur at anytime during the pregnancy and it doesn't always occur in the morning, can occur at any time during the day or night. If she suspects that she may be pregnant she needs to take a test to find out for sure. If indeed she is pregnant she needs to start seeing a doctor right away so that she can start preparing herself for the road ahead.

They say 4-6 weeks and normally lasts until week 16. It usually gets as bad as it's gonna get around week 7. I've felt nauseous before period has been due and vomitted the first week after a missed period. Usually a woman gets pregnant two weeks before her period is due. Therefore, she very well could be pregnant. Has she missed her period? If so, she should take a test.
