im a huge fan of the show - and want to understand the name

Her name is Meredith Grey and the show is about what makes her tick, her anatomy so to speak.

They picked the name because all doctors have to take anatomy in med school and one of the oldest reference books in Anatomy is "Gray's Anatomy" a diagram book identifying the different parts of the body.

It is a pun.

Isn't that girl Doctor's eyes Grey?? I think her name is Grey
Anatomy - I though maybe the makeup of the entire cast was like a human body and they're all Grey's friends so they would be

Grey's Anatomy is the title of a text book used to study human biology. It is relevent to the show because the main tragic resident's last name is Grey.

It is based on the mediacl book by the name of Gray's Anatomy; they made a joke by naming her Meredith Grey, and of course the men check out her anatomy

Actually Dillon C, it comes from both the character Dr. Grey and the famous medical textbook Gray's Anatomy. Med students will be very familiar with this book.

There's a well known medical textbook with the same title, so they made Meredith's last name Grey so that they could make that the title.

"Grey's Anatomy" is the name of one of the primary textbooks used in medical schools. Perhaps it still is.

"Gray's Anatomy" (note the spelling) is a well-known classic textbook for teaching basic anatomy; the show's name - "Grey's Anatomy", note the spelling again - is a takeoff of that name.
