That's their job.

Come...some are only doing what they see as their job - and look at it this way, they have to deal with half-blotto'd and egotistical loons who think they're impressing the women in the queue (needless to say, the same ladies will dislike the Mr. Egos so much, that egging them on will be a gamble in order to get them chucked out). Met some bouncers who only did it to catch a girl or two...there would always be one who are impressed at Muscled Darren, and so to ensnare a woman at the end of the night, pulling faces and acting like a spoilt 17 year old will win him his prize.
Also it depends what the queue comprises of...young 'uns 'bigging it up', or non-caucasians in a happy and loud mood tend to get the show-off bouncers wanting to let it known that he's the guv'nor. Of course, in Moss Side in the late seventies if bouncers thought like that, they'd be always a dozen who would test him out. Today they take a course in people management, do they not...but as 'professional' as that is, I still suspect 'doormen/women' still have to possess many moods in order to observe and deal with ensuing incidents, be they petty or much more serious.

pjgraham...fair point - bet you've also met bouncers who want to kick rear after seeing some dear who's given him a hard-on - the people management thing seems to be erasing that right now, but young hard boys will always want to prove themselves in order to slobber over Strawberry-blonde Sherrie...or whichever lass catches his eye in the queue!
Not-the-messiah...nice one - wasn't thinking too much about the steroid-boys, who had just come out of Knox Road...but can see it now.

Because under-aged drinkers and trouble makers are forever trying to pull the wool over thier heads...bouncers who have to go through that every night, all weekend long just to protect the company from lawsuits and wrecklace drinking and or fighting get peived that there are so many that just don't care.

Like Policemen bouncers go to bouncer college, (joking) They are taught to look for sign of trouble and when they are doing that they can't be seen to be 'nice'. If you got a nice one, people would pounce on them as fast. Its their job!

It is their job. Bouncers are people who want to be in the police but did not make the grade.

Because most of them are legalised thugs. They think they are big and tough, they have a macho image to keep up. And girls love that sort of thing. Most of the girls who fancy bouncers are slappers who like a bit of rough.

I know a couple of bouncers and they are great people so i shouldnt really tar them with the same brush.

Yes, why is it when we work anti-social hours, have to repeat most of what we say because you either can't hear over the music, are too drunk to undestand or are gobsmacked that any of us have a polysllabic vocabulary, we stand in the cold, inhale other people's cigarette smoke, wade into bar fights to protect the majority of well behaved merry makers and keep the peace, provide first aid for those who need it, carry wheelchair users up stairs when the sodding lift breaks down again, humour drunken fools who want to cry, puke or bleed on our shoulders, call taxis for those who look like they need them rather than let them go off alone into the night, prevent drug dealers from pushing drugs onto your offspring at the risk of getting stabbed or shot, protect barstaff from violent drunken idiots, assist the emergency services when required, we are polite, professional and sociable 99% of the time... YOU have obviously managed to find a way to really annoy one of us?

Must be a special talent you have.

But it's probably his fault. Probably an ex con who abuses steroids and sleeps with the underage girls he lets in on the sly, too...

See how you feel when being sober at a party where everyone is drunk and in your face. They also wear tight protective cups that add to the grumpiness.
