The United States remains, for the moment, the most powerful nation in history, but it faces a violent contradiction between its long republican tradition and its more recent imperial ambitions.

The fate of previous democratic empires suggests that such a conflict is unsustainable and will be resolved in one of two ways. Rome attempted to keep its empire and lost its democracy. Britain chose to remain democratic and in the process let go its empire. Intentionally or not, the people of the United States already are well embarked upon the course of non-democratic empire.

If I was the President and still had troops fighting terrorism then I would allocate whatever funds were necessary for the troops... Afterall , this country is worth protecting......don't you agree?
" If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. "

give the 3 billion living below the poverty line $153 dollers each and bring some hope to those only living on a doller a day.

You rest could then go on health care/ education or a really big party for all the troops.

I can't think of any other way besides making sure our troops have what they need to succeed in this war. You can't do that without money.
