Some of you are right. Baseball (like cricket) is boring unless you're playing. But you have to admit that the asker has a point.
Like ice hockey, there is alot of up and down the field, and passing, but scoring is rare, which is where most people find the excitement in sports. Anticipation of a score during a fast break is NOT the same as scoring. A one to zero score means alot of running around with not much else happening. And all the acting that goes on with falling and limping to get a call from the ref really is ridiculous. Sort of like watching a marathon being run, there aren't too many highlights that make one look on in utter amazement at the sport, until the last few minutes of the match.

I recommend reading the article below on why many Americans don't like soccer. It includes a whole bunch of factors- No use of hands, the offsides rule, doesn't appeal to familes of all income levels, and even soccer's British roots.
It doesn't help that the U.S. (or Canada) don't have top national teams. MLS is not a top soccer league, and all the best American players want to play in Europe. When you look at football, baseball, basketball and hockey, the best professional leagues are based in the U.S.
Lastly, Americans like big name individual performers or lots of scoring. Whether it's a great basketball scorer or a great baseball pitcher, Americans like big performers and MLS has a problem keeping them due to money issues (low salaries). Americans don't appreciate defense, and that hurts soccer which requires a lot of defense = low scoring. We call the Detroit Pistons and San Antonio boring NBA champions because they rely more on defensive teamwork than scoring.
I'm sure if there were a lot of MLS games that resulted in 6-5 scores, people would show more interest but that would take a lot from the game. It seems people like NHL hockey a little more because there's more scoring since the strike/lockout (though it doesn't help that hockey's on the VERSUS network, not ESPN).
I think David Beckham will help make soccer more exciting in America, but it's not enough. There needs to be more American stars to build more quality in the league. And to figure out a way to keep them in MLS.

Well, you might think Soccer is boring because you don't understand the rules, really know who the star players are or know when you're seeing something relatively amazing. Soccer, although having a large international following, has not found too many passionate fans in the USA. Because of this, soccer knowledge and game coverage has been pretty obscure. The average viewer and the commentators themselves probably don't really feel the game, so a viewer on TV who on a rare occasion actually sees a game, isn't getting the best account, explanation or analysis to what's going on. I say, give a few more years for the US to develop better soccer athletes, and perhaps at the next World Cup, when we have a fighting chance, you might enjoy watching a game.

Soccer has not revised its rules since it reduced from three to two the number of defenders needed to call an offside. We're talking about the endings of the XIXth century. And obviously, its players have evolved faster than the game.
Soccer is like marriage. Is the victory of hope over knowledge. Once in a while you have a good game. In sports that keep themselves updated, once in a while you have a lousy game.
But, as a mexican referee very accurately said: "Soccer is the only sport where you can play at World Championship level without having the slightiest knowledge of its rules". That's the secret that have made soccer a so popular sport worldwide, I believe.

With scores of 0-0, 1-0, 1-1, the only real entertainment in this boring game (soccer) is the crowd chanting/singing and players faking near death injuries.

It is boring if one doesn't play the game. The sheer physicality and ability at the highest levels are amazing if you can appreciate the amount of effort put into getting so good and so physically fit.
The rules are relatively simple (unlike the other football which is a great sport btw)
I suggest you just get a ball and have fun.

"Boring" is in the eye of the beholder. To you, soccer may be boring but to millions of fans around the world, it's a very exciting sport. The game that may be exciting to you may be boring to others. It's a matter of opinion.

That is your opinion. Happily, the majority of sports fans around the world (like me) disagree with your view. I was born, raised and live in the US. I have always loved basketball, baseball and US football. Then I saw my first soccer match and haven't watched much of the others since. Soccer is faster paced than most of them, has no time outs and features incredible athletic skill.

Because you haven't given it a chance. I'm from the US - born and raised on soccer.
It takes a tremendous amount of energy and physical ability to run around for a solid 45 minutes all while managing a ball with only your feet and/or head.
US football has breaks between downs, baseball has breaks between innings, basketball has breaks for foul shots ... hockey and soccer you're moving constantly. It ain't easy. Footballers/soccer players are brilliant.

Because you've probably never played it. It's the most popular and most watched sport in the world. A game last two hours which is shorter than baseball, football, golf, hockey, and basketball. A better question is, why is baseball so freaken boring? If you cut out all the BS, a game would be 15 minutes.....goooool!
