Infamy means 'famous' but famous for the wrong reason, i.e. for having done something bad or evil, rather than something good.

a combination of the words infamous and memory. Infamous the anti famous. A good person is famous but one who is evil is infamous. Memory......well pearl harbor and 9-11 will be in our memories but not a good memory so they are in "infamy"
