So I put the leftovers in the fridge and they turn brown. Is it allright to feed the leftovers to him the next day. They aren't rotten, just brown, right? That's what fruit does when it's exposed to air. My husband and I disagree on this - he thinks it rotten and I think it's just brown. What do you think?

Yes...I actually would eat it. I always try everything leftover that I give my baby to make sure it's ok. And i"d only give it to him the very next day...it wouldn't sit around 2 or 3 days.

It's not bad. I do that too sometimes and my baby has never gotten sick or anything. I would do what the others say...cut it in half - the other half will keep really well.
I'd just test it just in case to see if it tastes funny!

I don't think a brown banana is truly rotten but it is unappealing. I cut unpeeled bananas in half for my kids. The part that is uneaten just gets left on the counter. I usually have to cut the very end off but the rest of it retains its good color and texture. I have even left bananas like this for several days with no problem.

Rather than peel the whole banana the first day, cut it in half and put half the banana with the peel still on in the fridge. The next day just cut off the end that has browned and the rest of the banana will still be fresh.

I'd say cut up a banana into slices and place them in zip lock baggie in the freezer. You can make as many of these as you want for the week. This helps also while they are teething and he/she's about due to be cutting right? Give him a few banana slices from the baggie and you can always replace the remaining slices back into the freezer and they won't turn brown. Its like banana ice cream Yummy!

Cut the as much banana off as he will eat before peeling it. Then save the rest on the counter with the peel still on. Just cut off the brown end the next time.

It's not rotten... when the sugars are exposed to oxygen in the air, the banana is oxidized.

I personally could never eat a brown banana... it's just unappetizing.

What I do it cut the banana in half before peeling. Then I just peel half and chop it up. The other half you can put it the fridge. Just the exposed end will turn brown, and you can cut that off before cutting up the rest of the banana.

No, it's not rotten. It's oxidized, like apples do. And he won't eat the whole thing, that's too much food for an 8 month old.

Nae Nae is right. If you don't want it to turn brown, coat the pieces in lemon juice before you store them. That's what we do when we make banana chips in the food dehydrator and they stay pretty and white, and they have a little tartness too!

Banana does rot quickly so don't feed it after it browns. The chemistry of a banana allows it to be susceptible to changes very quickly. I have a Master's in Nutrition.
