If you go to your local Income Support Division (often called the Fodd Stamp office) you should be able to get Mediciade. They would still look at your income and/or ability to get insurance for your child. If you arent able to afford then your baby should qualify. The aplication can be rather lengthy and there will be an interview where you are able to explain your situation. As another poster mentioned you may also qualify for cash assistance if he isnt paying child support. (TANF) Either way they will most likely have a stipulation that you cooperate with your states Child Support Division, which is governed by the states Attorney Genrals office, which is a good thing. They will try to track down your hubby and start making him pay some child support and possibly provide health coverage for the baby.
Best place to star maybe be typing "medicaid your state" (whatever your state is) into google and it should provide you with some links/info as far as where to go to apply for your area.

If your husband is employed and you are still legally married, then you should still be under his health insurance. If he isn't employed or has no health insurance, contact your local social services agency NOW, explain the situation and they should be able to take it from there.
Good luck to you and your baby.

Sorry to hear that. Now it's your turn to as all single mom's do step up and take control. You are entitled to numerous things. Do not see these things as a handout. Go to the hospital or family agency they usually have booths set up to enroll children. Your next step should be to go for child support. If he is not dead or just wants to be awol. Do it as fast as you can no matter where hje goes he will be found through his social security. It'll be done faster doue to your matrriage. Good luck and love your baby unconditionally and everything you do do it for the both of you.

hmmm..good question. Here in NY i was denied financial assitance with day care ...even though i qualified for it...because hubby is responsible for paying half ...etc..etc... when filling out the forms...you can lie and say you are not married...i suggest you start divorce proceedings on your own though....for abandonment. if you are in NY...'child health plus ' is a great health ins. very cheap or free for some...quick application too. Good Luck

Got to your medicaid office and talk to them about the situation. They might have some kind of waiver.

If you can show that you have limited income you should be able to get your child insurance. Even if he were with you, you might be able to get it. It depends on the total income
