No. Too much of an ego.

Absolutely. Despite his advanced age, Sheffield remains a potent offensive threat who will add a great deal of depth to Detroit's lineup. He will be especially effective if Detroit uses him as a full-time DH, as his defensive skills have eroded considerably over the past few years, his strong throwing arm notwithstanding. Also, using him as a DH will help to keep him healthy and ensure that he gets 500-600 at-bats.

Offensively, Sheffield has remained incredibly consistent over the past ten years and, with his quick wrists, he remains one of the most feared hitters in the AL. He should outperform all DHs other than David Ortiz during the 2007 season. Also, the contract extension that he received from Detroit should keep his prickly demeanor in check.

That being said, the Yankees did well to trade him. There was no place for him on the team following the acquisition of Bobby Abreu and they received a high-ceiling, big league-ready pitching prospect in Humberto Sanchez.

Look for Detroit to be an offensive powerhouse with Sheff batting in the 3, 4, or 5 spot.

Yes. But they were already my pick for the AL central anyway (I am a tribe fan so there is no way I'm biased towards the Tigers). So he won't make them that much better because they were already great to begin with. He will bolster the offense if he stays healthy and take the pressure off the pitching staff (as if they have a hard time handling pressure) -- he will hit his share of 3 run dingers that allow pitchers to rear back and throw (good pitching, good defense, and a three run home run win every time). Yes unfortunately he will contribute. My beloved Tribe will finish 10 games out instead of 5.

Yes he will.

I am NOT worried about his attitude or his ego.
Jimmy Leyland will keep that in check.

Leyland has already said that Sheffield will NOT play 1st base, and will play some right field (to give Mags a night off on occasion).

Sheffield will be the DH for the most part, and with that short rigth field fence i expect to see 35-40 HR's with well over 100rbi.

He will add pop to an already exposive line-up.

If he's healthy then yes he should make them better. If he isn't of if his injuries from last year slow him down, then he won't make them better..But, they didn't give up anything to get him so he won't make them worse.

The key to me is if the pitching is at the same level as last year...Will the young guns stay healthy or will they fall apart as many do the year after a playoff run and how much gas does Kenny Rogers have in him (other than last year he typically breaks down - not necessarily injured but not as productive as in the first half).

At 38 years old he may put up "Frank Thomas" numbers (39, 114) if he stays healthy and if he is the primary DH.

As long as he doesn't play hurt he will add more punch to that lineup.

He has a real big chip on his shoulder this year let's see if it works to his advantage.
