whats wrong? i checked everything?

Connect it and open iTunes. Click on your iPod in the source list on the left and in the screen that comes up, restore your iPod. It'll erase all the songs on the unit, but that should fix your memory allocation problem. If that does not work, I'd take it back to the store you bought it from, as flash memory CAN be defective.

Which nano did you get and with what storage capacity? If you got a 2GB Nano then you can only put 2 GB on it before running out of space...

Beyond that, if you've added any album art, lyrics, ratings, or playlists those take up some extra space as well.
