I asked a similar question yesterday :) In my posting I mentioned some of my favorites as being:
Elling - (comedy/drama) Tagline: They're packed and ready for the greatest adventure of their lives. All they have to do is get out of the house. " A Norwegian film about two men that become best friends- One's neurotic, sheltered and sensitive, the other is sex-obsessed, has a temper, but is quite lovable. They leave the mental hospital to live out in the real world, and the film's just about their relationship with eachother and coping with things that to everyone else seems to come naturally.
Living In Oblivion- A comedy about independent film making, and all the mishaps that happen along the way with such a low-budget. Funny stuff, great performance by Steve Buscemi.
The Station Agent - Very good drama about a train obsessed dwarf (Peter Dinklage) in a small rural town on an abandoned railway station, and his unlikely friendship with a food stand operator and a woman who nearly runs him over.
The Squid and The Whale - drama/comedy "This is a piercingly honest, acidly witty look at divorce and its impact on a family."
I'm sure you've probably seen Clerks and Little Miss Sunshine, but those are some of my favorites as well.. Others that I've liked off the top of my head- Being John Malkovich, You and Me And Everyone We Know, American Splendor, Kitchen Stories...
I've heard good things, yet not seen them myself- Wristcutters: A Love Story, Man Push Cart, This Film Is Not Yet Rated...

Depend on what you want to think about.
There's one movie by HBO in indie form that is about a woman whose kinda poor going to the G8 conferences with this man she barely know that analysis a lot of different issues on starvation, child abuse, the enviroment in a real perspective and world leaders hypocritical views and actions. I'm sure someon could tell you the title if you asked. I love this one.
A movie about family and the ways we view and act to each other is "Pieces of April".
The third is a borderline indie film called "Saved" it a about this Jesus freak girl who goes to a Christian school who gets pregnant when she trys to degayify her boyfirend by having sex with him. She gets pregnant and he gets sent away. It's really good look at the way many Christians tend to view issues like teen pregnacy and homosexuality , as well as the hypocrisy involve. No for the anti-religous though.

INdies are good, love them but when you say that I get the impression you are shallow person who thinks that you watch indies and just way to sophisticated for the rest of us. Hope you did not mean it that way but it sounds snobbish.
