There are lots of sham offers. Where can I go to find reliable organizations that would help. I don't have the money to pay a tax attorney up front.

I've heard alot of positive feedback with http://www.ronideutch.com/

She started out small but she's so good she's got offices everywhere and is devoted to working with back taxes.

Contact a CPA or EA in your area. DO NOT call anyone whom advertises on the TV or radio (especially the one posted above).

Unfortunately, most CPAs ana EAs are really busy right now so they may not have time but you should be able to find one in your area. Just start calling and ask them if they have experience with filing an "Offer In Compromise". Technically, you can file one yourself but they are rather time consuming and the IRS rejects over 85% of them.

Also, it depends on how much you owe. If you owe under $10,000, the IRS will probably reject the offer regardless of you files it for you.
