Unlike many in developed countries, people in Bhutan seem to view happiness as something separated from the issues of the world around them. People in Bhutan have been through so much that they can no longer let many issues faze them. As long as everything is fine within your family, you have no major problems. I think that it is our intense faith and spirituality that allows us not to feel trapped by material things and issues.

The parameter of happiness in this material existence is temporary and limited. Whether industrialized, or undeveleped, attachment to material existence is the cause of unhappiness. You may be very attached to family, and I may be very attached to television, but the attachment is there. Happiness is obtained when material attachment is severed.
