since fart's are mainly composed of stuff like methane I'd say it's a more likely he'd throw up first .

Yes it is possible. A misconception about suffocation in a confide area is that the lack of oxygen kills you, this is not the case, it is actually the increase in Carbon Dioxide in the air, this would work then same as with other gasses, once the natural composition becomes very imbalanced we can suffocate.
