We struggle with wanting everything to be perfect and are always looking for the higher meaning. In such a tragic and imperfect world, how does an INFP keep from going crazy?

Lol, the answer is IN going crazy :)

In this context, going crazy doesn't actually mean becoming clinically insane. It probably means something more along the lines of thinking til you mind's all up in knots or veering so far from what's considered normal in society that you look like a fruitloop.

But the thing is, there is no balance or peace in today's society and if you try to find either within the rules of society you WILL tie yourself up in knots because none of it fits, no matter how hard you hammer it.

But an "INFP" person would probably come upon this knowledge themselves over the course of time, as I did.

I didn't realize we had a category! But from the description you've given, I certainly fit into it!

I keep from going crazy (sometimes it's a real struggle though!) by expressing my feelings, frustrations etc through art & music (as a painter & singer/songwriter). Also, yes I have a desire for perfection which motivated me to get straight A's & win awards & medals throughout my education, but I cut myself some slack now & don't expect perfection. I also try to release my need for control & perfection in the world. Yes it's a tragic & imperfect world, we can only do our best within it. We can not change it & make it conform to our wishes. Life has meaning because it is full of beauty & love. We need to focus on that rather than on the ugliness & negativity that exists in the world.

Just try to live by the Serenity Prayer to find balance & inner peace:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change,
the courage to change the things I can & the courage to know the difference."

No sense stressing about things that we have no control over. Might as well learn to let go (it can be learned but it's difficult! Meditation, yoga, writing, getting close to nature may help.)

Good luck! If it's any consolation we are among the brightest, most talented, creative, artistic creatures there are. Highly sensitive we feel deeply & experience life fully. It's a blessing as well as a burden. I'd rather be this way than be like a lot of people who seem half-alive & don't feel much of anything, people who walk around with blinders on & don't see half of what we see....

Meyers-Briggs created an interesting picture of individuals' orientation, but it cuts such artificial divisions! Most of all, find out more about yourself, how you developed and find your "human-ness". Accept less than perfect in yourself and find more of a wholeness! Same for your perception of others! You'll enjoy life FAR MORE than sticking to artificial constructs!

It is not easy. You are gonna have to get out in the world and start socializing and leaving things more comfortable, not messy though. And look toward God or Buddah or whatever higher power you beleive in.
