You know what is the most popular sport in US ? NFL (American Football). If I extend your logic, America should also accompany India at the end of medal list.

Sport is a cultural thing. I cant speak for others, but I observed it to be more generally prevailing. My mom was never happy at me going out and playing in my childhood. Forget encouragement, just to go out and play you have to sneak out. Kids in US are accompanied by parents or parent to soccer games or basketball games, there is encouragement towards athletics.

Every high school has athletics teams, how many of us have studied in schools that had teams for various sports and we cared to watch them?

Suffice to say, don't blame cricket. India can be cricket crazy and still be winning medals in Olympics. If you want more medal winners, breed an Athletic culture in the younger generations. Possibly after 10-20 years we may ascend in medals tally.

On the other note, I don't have to bear with mediocrity just because it came from country or countrymen. It is a form of racism. I don't care for any team that ranks 150 something. If the Indian soccer team really plays well pulls couple of upsets, see the change in public following. You get public attention through winning.

India are bad at soccer so no one cares about them
Since a lot of indian people work why would they go and watch a state game the state games can easily be corrupted without anyone caring and they are all fixed india do not have a state player who stands out either

Put it this way What is the state / acceptability of Cricket in Europe as compared to Football?

So should the Europeans be ashamed of not playing Cricket but sticking to Football (except England).
The point to be conveyed is level of popularity of different games varied from region to region Globally so the visibility of the game in that particlar region varies proportionally.
So such differences do exist not only in sports but in varied other fields but we should try to reduce these differences rather than highlighting them.

Hey fellow Indian

As a media person, you would also cover sports which is fully developed or is developing. You put your stake at a potential not on a damp squib. Indian soccer is is seeminglly a damp squib and no body wants to highlight or give coverage. The two factors which are pre-requisite to the development are:
The Govermental support and Sponsorship, and
Amount of money at stake

Due to lack of flair for football, Indian footballers are not good enough to be a force in the International circuit.

Baby,

Cool! Soccer is not the only game that is ignored. Keep that in mind. You asked this question because you like soccer.

Fact is that there are lots of cricket fans in India, relatively less soccer fans like us. Where there is money and following, media goes behind it.

And about state players, that is a different dimension. Will any kid be recognized or given a job in school itself? He has to come to college. That's the difference.

Simply, Survival of the fittest.

Jai Hind. Long live cricket.

You are right to some extent.
The thing is that cricket has dominated other sports.
No body really cares for other sports.
Look at Australia it is very good in cricket & at the same time
it also gets 100's of medals in Olympics.
Similarly U.S.A is also very good at base ball & at the same time
it also gets huge no. of medals in Olympics.
I REALLY HOPE & WANT THAT INDIA SHOULD BECOME
ALL ROUNDER IN ALL TYPES OF SPORTS.
BUT SPORTS SHOULD BE TAKEN AS A HEALTHY
COMPETITION BETWEEN COUNTRIES AND NOT A SOURCE
OF MAKING MONEY OR INCREASING HATRED OR RIVALRY
BETWEEN COUNTRIES.

You are right. As long as you give time, money, endorsments and prime-time only to cricket you'll have to cry like the cricket that sing all summer and have nothing for the winter. India has to cry every Olympic because she knows no other trade = cycling, cannoying, weightlifting, etc., etc including soccer. Yes it is shameful. A billion with a bronze every 4 years. Absolutely.
