A beautiful sunset - free. A cool mountain stream - free. Listening to the birds' song - free. Smell of the new spring flowers - free. Moonlight walk on a starry summer night - free. Love and laughter with the one(s) you love - free.

The best things in life can not be bought.

I believe that it means that things that cost a lot of money usually end up boring you after a while. Pop stars with millions end up taking drugs because they've tried everything else and nothing works anymore.

They often find peace on a farm somewhere, walking in the country, taking the fresh air, looking at the countryside and other things that are free.

Hence, 'the best things in life are free.'

If you live in a city (particularly a city such as London, where people are unfriendly and everything is rush and noise) you have probably either forgotten or never even known what other places can be like.

Cornwall, Devon and Somerset are beautiful, tranquil places where you can relax, unwind, look at green grass and breathe fresh air. The people are friendly and helpful and have time for you. At night, because there are few lights (unlike London) you can - on a clear night - see millions of stars and breathe cold, clean air.

All free!

The phrase refers to things like love where it is not purchased or given in exchange for something. Spending money on something can lead to disappointment due to the expectation of a preconceived result of the expenditure. Usually there are other emotional perceptions attached to purchases such as the feeling of euphoria or prestige after purchasing an expensive piece of jewelry or a new car. The feeling wears off once the purchaser comes to the realization that there wasn't any real change in the persona but just a temporary egoistic stimulation. People with money tend to think that they are better than other people and make exorbitant purchases to flaunt their wealth. It is very rare that you meet people with money that don't have expensive exterior personalities also known as a facade. I don't pay my pets to rush over and greet me with love and that is why the best things in life are free.

Probably a myth created in the distant past by those with money, education, and power,(none of which come free),in order that the lower orders should not feel cheated.
Adopted later by religious factions to fool the ignorant into believing that a life of destitution and drudgery is a worthy existence

Because money doesn't buy love, laughter, nature, creativity, beauty -- the things that make life worth living. What money can buy however is the freedom & opportunity to pursue these things. I would love to win the lottery so I wouldn't have to work at a job I hate & would have more time to spend with loved ones, to laugh, to enjoy nature, to be creative & to see all the beauty the world has to offer. It isn't that the money would make me happy (all the money in the world won't make you happy if you don't have love i your heart) just that it would buy me more time to seek the happiness that I already have in my life.

It depends what you consider the best things in life..
There are many things that are not free but they are great as well.
Although love, friendship, etc..are feelings that are not for sale.

Do you pay out-of-pocket for love? How about appreciation or gratitude? Do you charge for happiness? How about laughter? The best things in life are free and priceless.

Love came at a great price, but Christ paid it for us so love (and the greatest of theses is love) is ours for the taking. What can be better than love? Nothing I know of is more powerful even. Nothing else transcends along with us when we die? Does that help? Patience, acceptance, kindness, hope, trust? All free!
