Hi girls
just wan't to know really how long it took (as in how many weeks you were past your period being due) for your tests to come back positive?
i'm nearly 3 weeks late - and have taken a test 4 days ago but it was negative, slight cramping on one side of my stamach, blue veins over my chest and breasts plus very tired and urinating alot more! seen doctor and he says there's not much more we can do other than wait for a positive or a period to appear (which ever comes first)? he also mentioned that the blood test is just as good as the urine test is this true? as i've heard its better.
HELP! suggestions would be great as i'm so tired of seeing an negative plus its costing a fortune in tests!!!

i was 2 weeks past my due date-but i had a feeling i was anyway because i was feeling sick and tired and my boobs were sore. it sounds like you are but it's just not showing yet. it can happen that your pregnant but tests keep coming back negative. i would wait another week and do a test again.

Well, home pregnancy tests (same as they use in a dr's office) typically show positive by the first few days of a missed period. According to the time frame you have described, you would be 7 weeks pregnant and any test should show that at this point!

There are such things of false pregnancies, mock pregnancies and mole pregnancies...do some research on those. If you thought you were pregnant your body just might believe it too. I know that sounds crazy but it is very true.

I did not have a period for a while and had to be put on hormones to try to get it started. You may talk to your doctor about that.

As for a blood test, those are usually used when an tubal pregnancy has occurred, and thus does not appear in a urine test. At 7 weeks pregnant, I believe you would be in a great deal of pain! I'm not positive of that but fairly sure based on the info I do know.

I hope it all works out for you and you start feeling better soon.

A blood test is more accurate and will show if you are pregnant or not 7 days following conception.

I took 2 at home pregnancy tests a full seven days before my period was due and both were positive and yes i was pregnant.

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

Tell your doctor to do a blood test. You are 3 weeks late, you will get a result either way. Urine tests are all the same but your HcG level may not be high enough. Blood tests will never be wrong.

I have always heard that a blood test is more accurate, and I've also heard of a ton of women testing negative with the HPT throughout their entire pregnancy (like testing neg. the day before giving birth) which is what my doc told me can happen... Good luck!

If in total doubt why dont you ask your doctor to send you for a scan. That will hopefully give you an answer. If you are not pregnant it could show possible other things that could be stopping your period. If you keep having to buy tests why dont you get them from Boots that way you will get advantage points so it wont be a total waste of money! (1 point for every 25p spent, 1 point = 1p back to spend instore)

i had to test 7 times after my missed period to finally get a positive. i just didn't have a substantial amount of the hormone in me at first. the blood test is better. it detects much smaller amounts of hcG in your system. maybe you should try a different doctor or go to a clinic and request a blood test. i wish you the best of luck.

Take a urine home pregnancy test. Buy it today, and take it with your first morning pee. It will be more concentrated and should have more of the pregnancy hormone there to detect.
Good luck and congrats!
