As with most rumours, this one is off slightly.

Microsoft has written an invasive program with virus-like properties to help them with the fight against Illegal software.

The first part of this was the installation (whether agreed to or not), of the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool.
There is a second part which only allows security updates to be installed.
The third part MAY be something which will disable parts of Windows if it has not been identified as a fully legal copy.
This hasn't been activated yet but you can expect when Vista becomes the main MS Operating System, then ME, XP and all the others will suddenly be 'disowned' like Win98!!

MSN has had a few viruses in the past but they are very quick at killing it. If they have a virus their servers shut down and is usually fixed and back up and running within an hour or two. As long as you have an up to date Firewall and Antivirus i wouldnt worry about it.

hope that helps
