Tonight is opening night for the big break of my life. There's no singing, but I have to speak loudly and project my voice. Is there a secret concoction that stage actors may drink to help their vocal chords?

Hi, good luck for tonight, ok the best thing to do is to drink lots and lots of water... and warm your voice and lungs up thoroughly before going on stage. You are probably very aware of stage warm ups but if not just start by breathing in as deap as you can and then hold for a sec and take more breath in and hold, then release very slowly. repeat 6-10 times exhaling as much as you can when you release the air.
start warming your voice by humming very low and then get higher and higher... mmmmmm.
jump up and down, get your body moveing, warm your face up by scrunching it up and making exaggerated movements with your mouth. Yawning or fake yawning ( by opening up the back of your throat ) is excellent.
Avoid chocholate and spicy food and some people recommend drinking a small amount of glycerine before a performance. Also avoid alchohol .
remember to project from your abdomen not your voice box when you are on stage.
Break a leg!

One thing that will help you relax your vocal chords is to find your lowest note, and hum it very softly. That will massage the chord.

As far as "concoctions" go, I'd suggest plain water, at room temperature. Avoid anything with mint.

A lot of people drink olive oil, but I find that disgusting. Just project properly, don't drink any milk, and drink WARM water and tea with lemon. Nothin works better.

No dairy products, no caffiene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take a small bag of potato chips with you...that's what I said, potato chips. Eat a few before you go on. The salt soothes your throat and keeps it from getting dry. Oh yeah...don't talk too much today, but start talking and warming up your voice about 40 minutes before you speak.

There are a lot of methods, what helps me most is Honey mixed with Lemon Juice. I know it tastes digusting, but if you drink it will really help keep your voice.
