I am pianting a wooden figurine as a baby gift. It is new wood, has not been stained or varnished. I am going to be using acrylic paints.

My questions are:

What kind of primer do I need to use?
Should I dillute the paint?
And what varnish or finish does this wood need?

The wooden figurine is light, hand crafted and going to need some layers of varnish to even out the texture.....any advice?

Thanks!

Sand your figurine well. You really don't need to prime inless your item is a pine piece that feels a little sappy. Do not dilute your paints. Just paint it whatever you would like. Then finish with an acrylic spray. It comes in matt ,satin or glossy for whatever look you want to achieve.

as long as it is going to be kept inside, you can just use a regular indoor primer..such as Kilz 2 or American Tradition (Lowe's)

don't dilute the paint, because you run the risk of the paint not adhering correctly.

you don't want to put a varnish over an acrylic/latex paint because it will bubble. And you don't absolutely NEED a finish on top of the paint, unless you're afraid it will get scratched or knicked up. If so, you can use American Tradition protective clear gloss in either a spray can, or brush on.

i hope this helped.

if you delute the paint it will look more like a stain then painted... depends what style you like.
spray acrylic primer in mat or glossy is fine just make sure the paint is dry and the wood itself also.

I would mention that it is not a toy to be played with to the mother... but justa momento.put the date on the bottom or a secret wish!

Sand as smooth as possible. A flat white spary paint will work as a primer..... Don't dilute (unless paint is really thick) and just about any clear cote compatable w/ acrylic paint will work.
