I know people are going to be offended by this.

I've come to find that black people always seem to have an attitude and walk around with a chip on their shoulder.

I've been around a lot of diverse people with lots of different ethnicities/backgrounds/cultures. I do have black friends & aquaintences (they don't have those attitudes or else I wouldn't care to know them). But it seems for the most part, all across the board, that blacks are angry people.

Sampling error, mostly.

If you bought a lime green car today, thinking it was the only one you'd ever seen, you'd suddenly start seeing them all over.

When we catagorize things, we tend to start noticing the things that support it and ignoring the things that don't.

If you watched the people you encounter on film, you'd probably find that all sorts of people are equally angry, but you're just associating it with one group.

First off you can't really describe a race by one emotion but I get what you are saying. With all these freaking white supremists running around It would PROBABLY have something to do with that whole slavery thing and discrimination and what not. Also stereotyping. Everyone gets stereotyped in a way but too many of the stereotypes with African Americans have negative connotations, kind of like how you could be implying that all black people have bad attitudes. Even if a lot of the people around you act a certain way, you should try not to group people like that. Treat people like individuals. Anyway, the bottom line is it's hard trying to live in a country that treats you as a second-class citizen or a foreigner when you are the reason they are as powerful as they are. You feel inferior all the time, even if you aren't really thinking about it.

You should not generalize just because you have met certain black individuals with attitudes. Poeple of all ethnic groups have different personalities. It can be stated even more easily that whites are racist, prejudice, and down right evil ( by evidence of slavery). Start looking at everyone seperately and you will see that many blacks are wonderful people to associate with.

LoL First off...I'm not offended. I find you to be... quite PITIFUL. You said, "I've come to find that black people always seem to have an attitude and walk around with a chip on their shoulder." With that said, why would you expect a black person to respect you? You generalize a whole race because a few individuals had an attitude. Then again who wouldn't have an attitude with you - you are embarassing! Oh!, and please stop using the 'I have black friends' line. What? Is that supposed to justify your ignorance? Is that supposed to make US feel better about you? What's the point of being a closet racist? Your so called black friends have nothing to do with your ignorance...

LoL omg...

well i understand were your coming from to a certain extent .... I also believe that your a product of your society take me for example i was raised around a majority of Mexicans and Asians so basically i don't act like "the norm for black people"??? i speak properly i don't like rap music.. and I'm told i act white too.. i think most of the black people you describe are that way because they don't know any better... and usually they don't have anyone to teach them anything better... and they were raised in that type of society or a society were people act just like them and have the same mentality so how do you expect them to act any better and most of the people who make it out the ghetto and make something of themselves have had a seed planted by someone...that showed them that there was more to life then the cards they've been dealt so those people get lucky and strive for more..

Maybe it's just the area you're in. Where I'm at it's about half and half - some have bad attitudes, some don't. Every other group is like that too, as you can see from the other answers to this question.

I've been around a very diverse crowd of african americans while I served in the military. They didn't all have an attitude. Just the mostly the ones from the south. Where theres still alot of predjudice from white southerners who I also met in the military.

Well, constantly be accused of being criminal in nature because of your colour and you get weary. I snap when I get followed around a store. I growl at women who hold their purses tighter near me, I glare when I am stared at for being the only black person in the room, I get irate when I'm pulled over in my BMW, i grit my teeth when I hear whites complain about how hard they have it in America because of black privilege.

I do have a chip on my shoulder which is why I left America and moved to a black country where I AM judged by the content of my character and not the colour of my skin...it makes you BITTER!!!!

I'm much happier now!

At the risk of being interpreted as racist (which I 'aint) it would seem that the people in question lack the understanding of Martin Luther's quote of all men (and women) being equal. It was alright during the decade that famous quote was said but the meaning is now lost to those who think they are "better".
