YES. For a long time I felt like I was just dying to escape my home town. It was like I was waiting for the "right time," when I had finished school, or when I had enough money, or whatever. I thought that there were things in my past which would only stop bothering me once I had relocated my life.
Now I realize that things in my past can only stop bothering me when I face them and deal with them. When I seek people out and apologize for things that I regret doing and ask for forgiveness, or when I decide to forgive wrongdoings done to me, I find peace.
My hometown is not the same place to me now as it was when I was a teenager. I have found and created my own niche. I also have established a great network of friends over a lifetime. In fact, I can't even imagine leaving anymore, except for travel and vacations. By the way, my home town is home to over a million people, so it's not hard to become anonymous when I want to.
If you need to get out of where you are, I think you should examine your reasons. Sometimes a clean start is exactly what a person needs, and this can mean taking many different actions, such as moving away.
I don't presume to assert that my circumstances are identical to yours or anyone else's, but from my story maybe you can see a different side to your desire: running away is not always the answer.

Great Q, and karmically I was just chatting with my Angel about this very same subject.
I know I'm ok with ME, as many hopefully are. I'm just not so ok with the where, why, how, of the situation, ALL the time.
Certainly anyone not in a coma considers other options, and also the old saying regarding grass being greener, but the effect is one you, me, anyone, should at least analyze, and perhaps strive for.
Run away is usually futile, as we often RUN to similar situations. NEW life might be a bit inacurate too, in that what we might better do is RE-INVENT the life we have....and I get the metaphors BTW., smile.
Dissatisfaction with anything existing need not be a prison, and most of us at least explore the "dreams"
Since you ask, but don't admit that you are, I'll assume it has been a thought, but perhaps the environment you exist in is only accessable to change by your actions, and not strictly resolved by Running?

Yes! It's a nice fantasy. The idea of getting away from it all...mostly a job that I hate. I wouldn't want to leave my loved ones. But sometimes I think i'd love to just pack up & take off somewhere. Just drive across the country or take a train just disappear & start all over again, to live like a gypsy having adventures...
But I don't have the guts! So it's just a nice little dream. I love watching movies like that though & I feel inspired when I hear stories about people who just picked up one day and left (like the actress who was standing at the window washing dishes one day in a small town & thought screw it & packed up & left for Hollywood & became a regular in a tv show. I love stuff like that! If only I had the nerve...I just give my dreams a half-a$$ed effort. I've never gone all the way out on a limb. I don't have the nerve to quit my day job...)

Why do you have to run away to do that? Oh...I see, working on your current life is too hard? Try to see things in another light... what can I do to improve myself, my life, my conditions? Is it the people around me? Do I have an education? Have I forgotten my own dreams? Do I have to change some bad habits or get rid of them altogether? How is my health? What am I doing to help others? Who are my friends? An old saying that I just adore is:
"Tell me with whom you walk, and I'll tell you who you are." Does this apply to you?
A new place will not give you a new life. Just the old you in a different place. Don't run away...be strong and face your obstacles head on! Your new life awaits you!!!!!

NO. My life has had enough twists and turns and changes, I feel like I have led 3 seperate lives already...and I am only 33. I guess what I am talking about is 3 very different segments to the same life, but let me reiterate the very different part.
Running away and starting over? Kinda leads one to think about running from problems, responsibilities and consequences derived from one's decisions. Do you think you can really run away and start over? What is the benefit, what is the loss?

Maybe, but the new life would soon become like the old life since nothing else has changed internally. I'd rather go back in time 30 years, reprogram my thinking/behaviour patterns and then start a new life. In the end, the only way to start a truly new life is to change significantly in the way you think and behave, not your location, vocation or anything else external.

I would love to run away. Leave everything behind. Forget all about my troubles, mistakes, heart breaks, lost friends, and broken promises. I would love to start brand new, with a new me, a new life, a fresh start. Go someplace where nobody knows me, nobody judges me. Where I haven't disappointed anybody, and where nobody has disappointed me. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I have. Problem is I have this house.... and a car.... and a decent job and not a lot of savings.
I decided the next best thing was to write about other lives. Still doing it 7 books later.

Yes. But you've already started the only life that you'll ever have. You can change but not escape this life.
