I'm ashamed that the Dixie Chicks are from Texas.

The Dixie Chicks are celebrities. They also are from Texas which happens to be the most Conservative, right-wing state in the country. They made those statements in Texas and a lot of people weren't happy and said they couldn't perform in Texas anymore. And as everyone knows, country music is big business in Texas. I should know, I was born and raised there.

I know what you mean , however people paid a lot of money to hear them sing not to hear a political speech, a lot of the audience members had their spouse, child, grandpa, grandma etc.. fighting in a war. You can only imagine the stress the must endure daily. These families as well as others went to this concert to get their minds off their troubles for a while and the last thing the needed to hear was political comment which were unwelcome by Bush supporters as well as his non supporters.
Hope this helps.
A soldier that likes papa bush.

Because the Dixie Chicks are retarded. Who would take anything they have to say seriously? Why would they use their "fame" as a group to say uneducated things about our President? They just proved how unpatriotic they are and everyone else who is doing it now is showing the same maturity level if you ask me.

The Dixie Chicks are blazing idiots with little talent and too much attention. They should never have gotten a record deal.

They were right but when they first said it many Americans still were believing the lies of the administration.

Plus people were bent out of shape that they said it in a foreign country! Because we are a society of enablers! If you keep denying the truth even in the face of it some feel it's better than looking bad in front of the world in this case!

They spoke their mind, but they did not go to jail. They expressed their freedom of speech and their "fans" expressed THEIR freedom of speech. "Not getting by" means that you are somehow imprisoned for what you say.

Now, that said, people ALWAYS dispute over political opinions. But we are just average Joe Shmos... we express our opinion, berate each other for our opinions, and go our way. The Dixie Chicks are famous... so, when people berated them for their opinion, it made a little more news... When their fans disagreed with them, it may have hurt business for them a little.

But no one went to jail. The Dixie Chicks were berated by those who disagreed with them, just as they were cheered by those who agreed with them. They were treated no differently than any of the rest of us "debaters"... They just got more media coverage... for better or for worse...

**EDIT** I'm not a Dixie Chicks fan and I couldn't care less what they have to say... they hyper-twanged a perfectly good Stevie Nicks song... blech!
