Clouds collide and get charged this produces electric field between them. The electric field makes a few charged particles to collide with other particles with high speed this ionizes the particles giving rise to more ion which gain collide to give more ions. This produces a chain reaction, causes a large current to flow as it happens with a lose connection on earth. This huge large current give rise to lightning!

lightning is created by static friction, which is a physics phenomenon
air is a conductor, the amount of energy in the lightning gets forced through the air which gives resistance. this is a physics process. try looking up the law of ohm.
