What are the differences between Hackers, thieves, crooks and spies?

If someone noses around your answers, emails and pers information then whats to prevent them from doing worse?
We as private US citizens love our privacy and freedom . We should be protected from invasion of our privacy .

Not much. They all seem to be on "the other side" of the law.
