Obsession is irrational.
Love can be a very rational, reasonable thing.
When you're obsessed with someone, you rationalize away thier faults, usually in ways which only make sense to you. You overlook things that everyone else would consider "red flags." You give them the benefit of the doubt, when there is proof beyond a doubt that they were wrong and their intentions were bad. You feel so strongly for them that you make excuses for them, justify their actions, and convince yourself that there is nothing wrong.
Love on the other hand, is rational. Love sees the other person for who they are, knows their faults, sees their shortcomings, but knows that they are just human and that we all make mistakes and forgives them. Love thinks things through instead of acting in rage or frustration. Love sometimes is 'tough love," where you acknowledge that they need to change, that there's nothing you can do for them, that they are better off without you. Love doesn't jump to conclusions or assume things that aren't true. Love is strong -- strength enough to hold on regardless of the hardships. Love can see past the here and now to the future and can weight the options and compromise and collaborate and decide things together that are mutually pleasing. Love is completely rational.
