Has anyone went through an inventors submission corp or anything like that to get their invention seen? If so was in helpful or did they just waist your time? I have 2 great ideas and YES i researched...researched... and researched some more and found nothing similar to my ideas/inventions. So whats the next step for me im soooo confused. I have read, do this do that but no straight answer what is the next step. I have no PROTOTYPE/S but i have sketches and everything is writen in detail of how it works and what its for. What next? How does a simple person like me with no understanding of how this process works get it down. If a celebrity or a person who lives in high society wanted to do what i want they would have already done it because the have unlimited "RESOURCES" and thats said thats why the rich get richer! So PLEASE in Laymen Terms for God sakes what do i do next? Straight up answers people thanks for your help.

It is not possible to protect ideas but rather the representation of that idea.

To protect an original invention OR a significant improvement to an existing product, a patent would be filed. Here's the USPTO's definition: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/doc/general/index.html#patent

NOLO is a great, free informational site. Also, be sure to read what the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) has to say about patents.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Getting a Patent:
* Patent It Yourself (11th Edition) by David Pressman
* Patents and How to Get One : A Practical Handbook by U.S. Department of Commerce
* How To Make Patent Drawings Yourself: A Patent It Yourself Companion by Jack Lo
* The Inventor's Notebook: A Patent It Yourself Companion by Fred E. Grissom

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Hello, Filing for a patent is the best way to protect your idea. Find a good patent attorney and do a patent search, it costs about $600 bucks. Any good patent atttorney will recommend a search first instead of wasting money. A provisional patent is cheaper and gets you registered with the US patent office. Don't use any of those online invention get rich quick services, they want your money and our idea. Local non profit inventor clubs as a wealth of information, good luck.

If you live in the United States, go to the link in the source box below and click on the "Invention Help" tab. You need a patent before you take your idea to anyone else, or they will just rip you off.
