well there are 50 states in America. Each and every one has it's good and bad points, it depends on what you are looking for really. Think do you want to live somewhere near the sea? Do you want to live in a city? Once you have decided find out the best place.

Depends on where you're from and what you like.
Hawaii is beautiful - though there are only two seaons (rainy, dry) and it's pretty expensive
Boston is fun and youthful - but the winters can be pretty harsh and driving is a nightmare
New England / Upstate New York is picturesque and charming, but you have the snow problem.
Virginia is Republican/conservative - Maryland is Democrat/liberal.
The South is okay, but too conservative for me. They refer to the Civil War as "The War with the North" and many still display the Confederate Flag.
Seattle is really hip but rainy. True of most of the Northwest.
- - -
People in the North East tend to be intelligent, liberal, and a little snobby.
People in the South and Midwest tend to be conservative and in the words of our president "simple" people.
People in the West tend to be laid back and liberal.

CA is the best state overall. It has every type of climate and geography that can be found in the US. Warm beaches, cold beaches, mountains, deserts, flat plains, redwood forests, ect...
It also has many world class big cities like LA, SF, and San Diego with tons of things to do.
I'd say San Diego is a great place to live if you had to choose a city. Best weather in the nation, beautiful beaches, beautiful women, lots of different things to do year round, friendly people, very laid back and casual, beautiful natural scenery, and it's close to LA, Vegas, AZ, and Mexico.

Virginia.
Moderate weather most of the year.
most areas of virginia are fairly rural, but very close to cities as well. good schools, roads, etc.
specifically, i would suggest the Shenandoah Valley, or anywhere along the I-81 corridor, which runs from TN to Maryland.
