Do not feed them bread crumbs. Those have absolutely no nutritional value and will just bloat the fish. Do not feed any sort of crackers because they have salt and seasonings on them which, also, could kill the fish. Do not feed them any sort of canned human foods such as sardines, tuna fish, cocktail shrimp, whitefish, herring, or clams or any canned vegetable because they also have salt and other bad ingredients in them. Salted, seasoned, processed human foods are not good for fish. Do not feed them canned fruits because these have sugar in them. Human foods are not made for goldfish. Besides specially designed goldfish flakes and/or pellets, goldfish need natural foods. These are very good for goldfish and should actually be a part of their regular diet. Dark lettuces (not iceberg), spinach, fresh or frozen, shelled green peas, oranges, kiwi fruit, grapes, cucumbers and boiled and chopped eggs. Goldfish can go for several days without eating and be perfectly fine. It is better to not feed them for 1 to 3 days rather than feed them human foods.

Crackers and bread will not harm your fish.

A better choice for your gold fish are peas. Canned or frozen doesn't matter In an emergency they will do.

If you are not planning on being able to get out any time soon, lower the temperature of your tank to 52-54 degrees. This will slow the fish's metabolism, but will not shut it down. At 50 goldfish start a hybernation process where you shouldn't feed them. Anything above 50 you can feed.

Also, if you leave the tank lights out, the fish are in a suspended state, in other words they rest. Using less oxygen from the water as well as burning less energy requiring less food.

Fish can go for a couple of days without food. The peas will work.

wow, bummer.
turn the temp down in the tank and make it very cold. Fish stop eating when it is cold..goldfish are hearty and can survive amazingly well in the cold as long as they aren't fed anything..likewise, if you can't feed them...keep it cold in their tank.
you could also try bread and little bits of vegitables, cucumber works too.

If you figure that you'll be able to get out within a few days, don't feed them anything.
A couple of days without food won't hurt them.

you can feed them dry cat food or dog food (just make sure there is no coating on it) pieces of white bread rolled into tiny balls, pieces of breakfast cereal like Cherrios or Corn Flakes
just watch that you don't foul your water

they are usually fat enough they can go through a week without eating. you can feed them most any green vegetable that is cooked and chopped up -- spinach, lettuce, peas, cucumber, zucchini -- they really aren't picky eaters. just make sure you chop it up small enough to go in their little fat mouths.

Fresh and frozen veggies such as squash, green peas, green beans, various greens, etc are also good additions to the diet as are various fish and shellfish (e.g. cocktail shrimp, clams, whitefish, sardines, herring, salmon, etc).

Romaine lettuce (or any other type I suppose) will do fine until you can get to the store! (I've done this for my goldfish).
