Most people don't see all of Disney in one vacation. There is a ton to see and do, with crowds and things it can be pretty hard to get it all in.
I would say to get the most in one vacation I would try to do at least two days at each park. But, that is 8 days right there, so you may not have that much time. Magic Kingdom and EPCOT really need more than one day, especially if you are going during a busy time of the year. Animal Kingdom and MGM can be done in a little less time, but I would try to give them both one day. Some people prefer only a half day at Animal Kingdom, I would spend the second half of that day at MGM to see more there.
You also have the two water parks, putt-putt courses, Downtown Disney, Disney Quest, Cirque, etc. This is just some of the more popular things, some people even enjoy visiting all the resorts, that can take another day. Plus, there is a ton to do outside of Disney in Orlando as well.
I would never go with less than a week, you wouldn't have enough time to relax and enjoy yourself. I think that 7 to 10 days would be a good amount of time to see a good majority of things.

That's a tough question. I lived in Orlando and worked as a Cast Member for a year and there were still things I didn't get a chance to see or do. Luckily, I think we've gotten in everything now over past trips.
But to see all 4 parks, you need 4 days, minimum. Disney vacations are not cheap, so a day at each park should do it for this visit. If you have less than 4 days to spare, get park hopper passes and hop around in to all 4 parks in the time you do have. We typically stay for 8 days and that is plenty of time to see all 4 parks, visit a Disney Water Park, do Pleasure Island, go to the beach and do another off Disney property activity.

3-4 days is the least if you want to do everything Disney. There is Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, MGM, 4 golf courses, 2 putt-putt and numerous other stuff.
In addition:
The Kissimmee / Orlando area has tons to do as well. Universal Studios, Sea World, International Drive area attractions and shopping.
Drive 45 minutes over to the Atlantic coast for Kennedy Space Center and then down to the A1A for a walk on the beach.
Drive 1 hour West to Tampa and go to Busch Gardens. Tampa has a great aquarium as well.
Numerous major league baseball teams have spring training in the area. You can see a MLB spring game closeup in the front rows for less than $10.00 per seat.

I completely agree with tech_fanatic. To seriously see and do everything at Walt Disney World you'd have to stay for a few weeks. It takes at least an entire day to complete each of the theme parks, but the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT can easily take two entire days. There's much more to Walt Disney World than just the four theme parks, though. There's two amazing water parks to experience - Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. There's Downtown Disney, "a city of choices in a metropolis of fun," which is home to Pleasure Island, Disney Quest Indoor Interactive Theme Park, and AMC 24-Theatre Complex, a Cirqu du Soleil show: La Nouba, and ton of wonderful shops and restaurants. There's also a lot of recreation to take part in. There's six golf courses (five Championship golf courses), two miniature golf complexes (Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland), guided fishing excursions out on the lakes, horseback riding at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, evening carriage rides, boat rentals, specialty cruises, water sports (parasailing, jet skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, etc.), volleyball courts and tennis courts. There's Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, too, and the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Oh, and the spas - Disney's Grand Floridian Spa, Disney's Saratoga Springs Spa, and the Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. And don't forget, there's over 25 different beautiful Resort Hotel options to explore and over 150 different fabulous dining options to enjoy.
There is just so much to do at Walt Disney World. Like tech_fanatic, I would never bother going for less than a week - it's almost not worth the time and money 'cause you just won't have enough time to enjoy everything Walt Disney World has to offer. I usually go for at least ten days. We were there for 11 days this past summer and we got a lot accomplished, but we still didn't get to see and do everything. Honestly, to see all of Walt Disney World, I'd say you'd need to be there for at least two weeks. But you can take a week-long vacation and see and do a lot - not everything, but the main things.
Hope I could help!

I've been to Disney World 6 times, and I usually spend two days there (2 parks per day). However, if it is your first time I would recommend at least 3 days to throughly cover the 4 major parks.(Magic Kingdom,Epcot,Animal Kingdom and MGM) This way you will see everything and know what you can skip during your next trip.
