I don't want to have to drag 2 large suitcases as I am stopping off in Cali first. Is there a cheap (USPS, FedEX) way of getting my clothes/small electronics without any customs problems?

Believe it or not, i have sent 8 packages to my wife in Mexico city, and never lost any thing at one point the post office in Mexico did open one shipment, but i think it was because the box was heavy and over glued with my hot glue gun, but even after destroying the box they taped it back together and told her to come to get it, and the didn't take any thing, one thing to remember all packages must be picked up at the post offices, and you must show ID and the name must match the package, only small mail is sent to your home, it cost me around $40 for every 10 pounds i send, and it takes 5 to 6 weeks every time i send a letter or a box, the fed-x people and the UPS people many times hand off packages to a company called (multi-pack,) this group handles most shipping for Mexico, they are much faster than the mail service by far, if you use them you don't have to worry, and they deliver small packages, good luck.

Customs will ALWAYS be involved. Personally I wouldn't ship anything. Your taking a BIG chance that something or much will turn up missing.
I would sugest if you really want to ship, then ship to yourself, general delivery at the border Post Office. Then it will be there when you arrive and you can keep an eye on everything during any inspection.

VERY EXPENSIVE to get things shipped down there. There is also a possibility of "losing" them in the transit. I would buy yourself two suitcases on wheels OR you can put the suitcases in a locker at the airport too.

why don't you just take your clothes with. If you don't you might not have any when you get there.
