Israel was legally created out of the dismemberment of the Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I. The area was desolate – desert and swamp – with some small towns and a few inhabitants, many of them nomads.
The inhabitants, if they thought about it at all, considered themselves Syrians. T
he legitimacy of Israel arises from the Balfour Declaration issued by the British, who were given the mandate over the area by the League of Nations. Jews have lived in the country since Biblical times. The Arabs from the surrounding areas were lured to “Palestine” by the industry and prosperity that the Jews brought to the region. Envy, hatred, and religious fanaticism turned the Arabs against the Jews. In bloody outrages, horrible massacres, killings and rapes, the Arabs tried to dislodge the Jews, but were unable to do so.
In 1947, the British, having tired of the trouble and the bloodshed, resigned their mandate. That same year, the United Nations mandated partitioning of the territory. The Jews, though disappointed, accepted the partition. The Arabs rejected it out of hand and launched war against Israel. The armies of five Arab countries invaded the nascent state. Following the exhortations of the invaders, the Arab residents got out of the way hoping to return after victory was attained. They could then reclaim their property and that of the Jews, all of whom would have been killed or would have fled. That and that alone is the source of the Arab “refugee problem.”
Had the Arabs accepted the UN partition plan, there would now have been a state of “Palestine” for the last 58 years. They might have attained a similar level of prosperity, advancement, and development as Israel, which, small though it is, is today in almost every regard one of the world’s most advanced countries.
They might even had deserved the right to be called "palestinian".

Bad idea and huge mistake...To displace a people who used to live there for centuries, in order to bring someone else from Europe and Russia to live there is a mistake...That started a conflict that seems never to end...Occupation is wrong, therefor Israel is a bad idea...
Sure,no one is denying that Jews suffered during WW 2,but they were not the only ones...and I don't think that the Jews are entitled to a homeland, just because of the Holocaust...By this principle let's give the gypsies too a homeland,'cos they were victims of Holocaust too...It's wrong for a religion to have its own country...and more there is no place we could find to create a country for someone. One way or another they would have occupied someone's land...And probably the same thing would have happen...It was wrong to create Israel in Palestine,as it would be wrong to create it in another place...
As for the reason that Jews lived there 2000 years ago,I could not care less...Let's all leave our lands and give it back to the ones that lived thousand years ago there...The Arabs controlled that territory for the last centuries and creating Israel there was a wrong move...

The Israelis were given the country by the UN (yes, it was a good idea), who got it when Britain didn't want it anymore, and Britain got it in World War One from the Turks, who had it for a couple centuries.
Israel formerly existed two thousand years ago. Jews were dispersed around the world, and had no homeland. After World War Two, they got a homeland. That's good.
The Zionists were trying to bring Israel into being before World War Two. Then the Holocaust made the cause more poignant.
Arabs possess like 98% of the Middle East. I don't see why they aren't satisfied wtih 98%.
Most of the problem is that the dictatorships in the Middle East need an external enemy to distract their own people, whom they are oppressing.

Absolutely not. The Palestinians never left that land. After the temple was sacked in 79 a.d. most Jews abandoned Israel, this became a common trend for them up until 1948. We've aided a Zionistic society, where if your Jewish you get instant citizenship, and if your not you'll probably never be granted citizenship. The most ridiculous thing about the whole mess is that Zionism was founded in Germany in the late 19th century. In 1972 Israel conducted nuclear tests in the Medditeranian, breaking Geneva convention laws, with no reprocussions. They do whatever they want and we aid them however we can, it doesn't make sense. If you look into Zionism and Theodore Hearzle's philosophy, you'll find there is a definate lack of acceptance toward everyone who isn't Jewish. I think Israel should be left to defend itself without our aid, what have they ever done to help us? They take and take, that's all.

I think that it was a good idea, because like everyone said, the British Owned it, therefore they really can give it to whomever they want, The only reason that there is fighting isn't over the land it is over the religious beliefs and differences. GET A GRIP, it is a faith, shouldn't be a reason to fight and create bloodshed, if that was the case then there would be plenty of dead Catholics and Christians for all the deaths they caused in the past....

I'm sure that Democrat Jimmy Carter would say it was a bad idea, but then again, he's an anti-semite.
