What is it? Is it some little fuzzy thing floating around in their stomachs or what?

When I'm in class and my professor makes an awkward sound or coughs or drops the chalk, I always hear a bunch of girls in class giggle.

I doesn't bother me.... I think it's cute that they giggle, but I'm just wondering what causes them to do it?

First, dude, how old are you? I understand asking this if you are 12 or 14. If you were older you would know that this is the way girls are. They giggle. The same thing which makes them girls is the same thing which makes giggle and also makes them attractive to guys. You wouldn't think it was appealing to hear a girl guffaw like a jock, would you? The hormones boys have which give boys a deeper heartier laugh girls don't have as much of and their voices are generally softer and therefore the giggles. Now, I hope that helped.

The potential for a better grade. Two people drop some chalk. One the girl cares less about the other the girl likes or wants the person to like them. The first she may be mad at for dropping it the second she may giggle.
So why giggle at the teacher? they don't want the teacher per say, they want the teacher to like them and therefore the potential for a better grade.

Well to me it's the personality of the guy that makes me giggle or when he tells a funny joke or something. Try that some time.

If one girl giggles, other girls giggle. So you really just need to figure out why the first girl giggles. Maybe she likes your professor...

They are just being girls. They do it for a bunch of reasons. Like when a girl is around a guy she likes, she might become nervous and giggle. Or when they are around their friends they giggle.

Sometimes it can be from supressed laughter ie they cannot laugh out loud during the class. Nervousness can cause giggling too. Lots of girls do that out of nerves
