possibilities:
- Bad flame sensor
- Bad electric gas valve
- Bad controller (times out to shut off gas too soon)
All of these require a professional repairman.

There may be an electronic "eye" that is loking for light from the flame for safety. If the flame is not a big as expected, it shuts off the fuel. You can reset and it will re-light, but then just shut off.
If your unit has this feature, maybe you will be lucky and perhpas only some soot or dirt is over the lense. Clean it with a Q-Tip or soft cloth. If that doesn't do it, it may need to have this eye replaced. Should be under $10.
Or maybe there is a thermocouple above the flame bar that has been moved out of position or is defective?
Is it going out becasue a safety device is turning off the fuel, or is the flame just going out and the fuel keeps flowing? I've already suggested some safety device oriented things to look at.

cleaning the flame sensor will sometimes fix it but you also need to make sure the ground connection between the burners and the control are not corroded a bad burner ground or a dirty flame sensor will cause this. also you may be getting some blinking red lights on the control panel count the blinks and look on the inside panel and sometimes thios will give an indication of what is wrong

i had this excact same problem....look at the filter...if it is dirty it will casue it to do it, if the filter is to thick that could casue it to do it as well, pull the filter out, if you cant see threw it, get a cheaper one, that you can see threw... Dirty filter will casue it to over heat, and shut down
for now, take the filter out, wait a minute, and see if it stay on, if it does, that is the problem, if it still doesnt work, then call a heating a cooling pro
good luck
