Not unless I could afford to dump it if things didn't work out. With the current falling condition of real estate, you could be taking a chance on over paying for a house you might decide not to live in and have to take a loss to sell, IF you don't have someone who can look after the house or rent it to someone you know or are certain will take care if it, you have even more issues.

Pass; invest the cash till you are ready to make the move

yep- if the market trends show housing value going up- and increased demand for your area you could literally do nothing but live there and make money until you are really ready to leave the state. Increased demand is key because when you're ready to move you don't want to then get stuck waiting for your house to be sold or have to settle for a lower price so you can get out.

NEVER buy a home in a state you will never live in!
When you get ready to move out-of-state, the first thing you should do is obtain a job - after obtaining a job - then buy a home close to the job.

Well with a home you do have equity. Also you have a built in tax deduction. There are many reasons to own your own home. Just be careful cause they can be real money traps for repairs.
