My thought is that the extremly passive personality is only present in dreams and the other dominates the rest of the time. Can this happen.

In my case, the personalities that make themselves present are very much alike, with their own special quirks. The ones that behave more differently are kept inside until there are appropriate opportunities for them to be out.
Very few people know about my condition. They just think I'm a bit weird and inconsistent. One day one alter who is out will say, "I hate mashed potatoes." The next day, a similar but different alter would enjoying eating mashed potatoes.
Since many people who are not DID (the modern term for multiple personalities, Disassociated Identity Disorder) can be weird and inconsistent, it's easy for me to blend in with the rest of the world.

Oh yes of course! Most M.P.D.'s are not like Sybil who have lives apart from one another. Most people find out they are mutable because of lost time. People insisting that they said something they Know they didn't say! People telling them "You know me!" and the person has no idea who that person is.Lost time is a real give away.Different hand writings. Clothes in the closet you don't remember buying, not even your style. Most multiples have more than 2 and one is not just there in sleep. Most have certain triggers that Will make an alternate personality to take over and handle what ever situation that brought on the takeover. A trigger could be a man's voice shouting, a movie on T.V. about child sexual abuse. A certain smell (Old spice) Most multiples have had very troubling childhoods.

People are a complex unit of various personality aspects. That does not mean they have a multiple personality disorder. No, I do not agree that passive personality exists only in dreams, etc. Our passive or dominate personality is a reaction to people and events.

Yes- The reason why people have multiple personalities is because they still have attachments to their previous lives existence. They didn't full let go from those lives and keep carrying them to the next life. The are very attached to the material conception of life. They where very traumatized in those lives and their mind is still attached. They slip into those modes from time to time depending on the person. Some may only do it in dreams. yes. the previous lives thing is just a bunch of crap. I think people have different personalities because there is just so much stuff in the world to think about and when people make their mind up about if they agree or disagree about things, the views might represent different things, and might not go perfectly together. I personly have some different personalities and i just try to be my own individual person, that sounds really corny but i think its true

I don't not believe that would warrant a diagnosis of Multiple personality disorder-not medically at least
