Read your contract. It should state the provisions on the back. Most retail reps don't know what the contract actually states. You may find a loop hole.

My ten year old has a regular phone (we don't have the payment plans). He can call everyone in the family for free and knows that he's not allowed to call anyone else without permission. He knows that if he goes over a certain amount a month, the phone will be taken away from him. So far this has worked very well and he never risks losing the phone. I know you have so many different payment plans in the UK. I think your best bet would be to go to a few shops and ask them for the best deal. For those who say your boy is too young to have a phone: A few years ago I was totally against kids having mobile phones but I gave one to my son when he was 9, not for him but for me! I think it's added security and instead of ringing all his friends and walking for hours around the neighbourhood when he's having too much fun to go home, I can call him. If something happens to him, he can call me. Maybe it's selfish of me but I'm a lot less worried about him now.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do. They took the money out early is all relative. Most autodrafts occur 3 days before the money is due, and this is just standard practice. As far as the contract goes, if you don't have a copy of something in writing stating that you can celcel that contract, then you are stuck.

its hard to get out of a contract without damaging your credit rating! If you dont mind about your credit rating just dont pay a bill or cancel the direct debit!
If you do care (and you probably should!) try to reduce your contract so you are paying the minimum line rental and use pay as you go for your calls and messages!
Read your copy of the contract carefully and make sure you are not allowed to cancel they may be telling fibs.
To get your contract cheap saying you have been offered a cheaper deal from one of their competitors may help!
Good luck!

most cellphone provider like tmobile, cingular, etc do allow a 14 day grace period that allows you to cancel, however some third party providers, which cell their services, have their own provisions like, if you cancel you'll have to pay that company. also reps get commision when they sell you service, so you may want to read the contract and consult a different rep because it's possible they are trying to get you to stay so they get their commission. i reccomend you call the service provider directly and deal with them

Little known secret...
Check your contract for any changes in "fees". Even if it's a one cent difference, it's not what you agreed to on the original contract. That's called "breech of contract". Throw that phrase at them and watch them squirm.

Keep pushing.. If they said you had a week to cancel then you have a week if someone lied to you then the need to disciple or retrain their associates.. but don't give up... keep pushing... keep asking to speak with the manager.. and then his manager.. and then hers and so on and so forth.....
