My girlfriend and I have been together for 1.5 years and have been struggling recently with being together openly. However, we're going away this weekend to VT...does anyone know any spots we should go to for fun where we can be open and comfortable?

I wouldnt know specifically about any gay or lesbian places but you are definitely going to enjoy the scenery and natural Vermont offers. If you are into cover bridges, Vermont has a ton of them. If you like antique stores, there are plenty throughout Vermont. I used to mainly go to Rutland (ex-gf) which is a small generally conservative town. They have a nice little downtown. Burlington is nice and although I dont remember it entirely, your best bet for an open lesbian relationship would be hanging out all around the University of Vermont since most universities are more liberal. Theres lots of places to hang out there. Check out tripadvisor.com they might offer some places to stay, and reading through peoples reviews you might gain some more ideas. There are lots of B&B's throughout VT too.. maybe there are some that cater to lesbians? Who knows, but there probably re if you look hard enough. On that note, if you ever make it to San Francisco area you'll have no prob holding hands in public anywhere there. Same thing for around UC Berkeley campus. Lots of open minds all around the bay area. San Francisco is definitely one of my fave places... not for thew acceptance of gays, but for the history, the shopping ventures, the parks, the kind people, the different districts, the cable cars, nice metro system, ferries, sports, etc, etc. You dont need a car in SF thats for sure.

My God! You are referring to Vermont, the blueist of all States and the first civil union state! You should feel comfortable being out wherever you go. There is much, much more to do in Burlington than in Middlebury (a small college town with just a couple of clubs) however.

Or to really let go and feel loose travel up to Montreal where everything is so comfortable no one even thinks of sexual preference anymore (it is Montreal, not San Fran, which has the largest proportional gay community in North America) with scores of fun places for any weekend.

No one is really all that open up here. Just because the government allowed Civil Unions does not mean it's "open". The only gay bar in Burlington closed.

How about a church? Either that, or a nice trip to hell.
